What is the Accelerated Reader Program?

Below is a chart of the ATOS readability formula which correlates the grade level to the AR level, according to the Common Core State Standards:

Level Correlation Chart

The Accelerated Reader program is a computerized program that tests reading comprehension. Students select books on their reading level, read independently, and take an independent comprehension test on the computer. Each book is worth a certain number of points based on its length and reading level; students get a percentage of these points based on how many of the test questions they get right, and the program tracks their progress over the course of the school year.

Accelerated Reader also utilizes the ATOS readability formula, which is a verified measure of quantitative text complexity for the Common Core State Standards.

BMI Accelerated Reader (AR) Book Sets contain books within the Accelerated Reader program, and specific AR sets have been created specifically from lists derived from Renaissance Learning’s website. BMI does not provide the Accelerated Reader quizzes, please visit www.renlearn.com for all quizzes.
